Psst: Hey Buddy! Want to buy a watch?
Sometimes I come across something that's too strange to pass by. A case in point is this fine Russian divers clock, err.... I mean watch! Check it out.

Nice watch, eh? Nice well-defined markings, luminous hands, and all of the stuff that makes a good underwater timepiece. No rotating bezel, but that's OK with me. Normal watch, but look a little closer........ |

What's shocking about this baby is the sheer size of the thing! My old beat-up Rolex Sea-Dweller is for scale. Guys and gals: This ain't no kids-toy. The thing must weigh a pound. No joke. That old Rolex is a big watch. This makes it look like a ladies version. |

Crown sealing is by this very submarine-like screw-on cover over the winding stem. It's supposedly waterproof to the crush-depth of the Kusk, and is massive. The case is chrome-plated brass, in case you were wondering. |

My hands aren't exactly huge, but this watch makes them look like a childs. I'm not sure what the Russians were thinking when they designed this one, but certainly it's suitable for use in the most hostile conditions. The sick thing is that I'm actually going to take it diving once or twice to see how it works. Let's see..... maybe I'll remove one weight from my belt first. |
Believe it or not, these were the standard issue deep-diving watches for years in Russia. The movement is apparently the same as used in their ships deck-clocks. It's been running accurately, and it can double as a hammer when required.
